Mother Walnut

A "mother" tree used as understock for grafting hybrid walnut seedlings so they'd grow and bear nuts more quickly. Each major branch carries a different variety. This particular tree is important because it is one of the last remaining examples of how Burbank conducted his experiments with fruit and nut trees.
