Himalayan Blackberry
#17 Blackberry 'Himalaya' (1885)

Purposely imported from India by Burbank, this vigorous and invasive plant was selected from a group of seeds and has become widespread on the west coast from California to Washington state, a real pest in some places. The annual cane growth is 10 to 20 feet; with adequate water it is a heavy fruit bearer in large, drooping clusters. Amazingly thorny; serves also as wildlife habitat but tends to obscure the hybrid beach plums, #18. (Photo in spring before ripening)
